How SRECs work
A Solar Renewable Energy Credit is issued for every 1,000 kWh (1 MWh) your system produces. Utilities in SREC states must buy them to meet solar mandates, so you can sell yours on the in-state market — extra income on top of bill savings.

New Jersey SuSI TRECs: ~$85/MWh. Maryland: ~$50–80. Illinois Adjustable Block: ~$65–85. Pennsylvania: ~$25. DC: ~$40. Ohio: ~$4–12 (weak). Massachusetts SMART is a flat per-kWh adder rather than a market SREC. Prices move with supply and demand.
